BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) is an instant messaging app. Initially gaining popularity as a BlackBerry only messenger, it has since crossed over onto multiple platforms, letting Android, iOS and now Windows Phone users connect as well.

All the essentials

The Windows Phone version of BBM incorporates almost all of the same features present in other versions of the app. You can find BBM Chat (instant messaging), BBM Groups (chat with up to 50 people simultaneously), BBM Feeds (a news feed showing your contacts' status), and of course, your Contacts.

During a conversation, you're able to share photos, contacts, or your location. You can also send audio messages, as well as emojis. Stickers, however, are not available in this version.

Designed for Windows Phone

Unlike the versions for iOS and Android, which copy the BlackBerry style, the interface in the Windows Phone version adopts a style that's more familiar. To move from one feature to another, you can slide your finger horizontally across the screen, just as you can with several other Windows Phone apps.

The BBM app is still in its beta version, but it performed very well in our tests– no difficulties or bugs to report.

Still incomplete

BBM for Windows Phone still has some way to go before it catches up with the other versions; there are still several features that aren't yet included, including BBM Channels, BBM Voice, and BBM Shop. Its arrival, however, is good news for Windows Phone users who have been waiting months for its release.
